5 Servings 45 min Cook
2 Tsp Olive Oil
1 Small Onions
1 Cup Lentils
2 Cup Vegetable Broth
1 Can, 15 oz (303 x 406) Tomato Sauce
1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
3 Tsp Molasses
1 Tbsp Vinegar
1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
1 Tbsp Tomato Paste
1 Tsp Garlic Powder
1 Tsp or 1 packet Mustard
1/4 Pinch Cayenne Pepper
1 Dash Salt
1 Dash Pepper
5 Roll Hamburger Or Hotdog Rolls
Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
Add the onion and cook until softened and just beginning to brown, 5-7 minutes.
Add the lentils and broth; bring to a boil, then partially cover and reduce heat to low.
Simmer for 20 minutes, or until the lentils are tender enough to eat, but still firm enough to hold their shape (not mushy!).
Stir in the tomato sauce, brown sugar, molasses, vinegar, soy sauce, tomato paste, garlic powder, mustard powder, and cayenne.
Increase the heat to medium and bring to a boil.
Continue to cook the lentils until the sauce has thickened, 10-15 minutes more, stirring frequently.
Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
Serve the lentils on the rolls.
